Rolley Lake Provincial Park

Overview

A brief introduction to Rolley Lake Provincial Park

Rolley Lake Provincial Park, situated just 23 km northwest of Mission, BC, is a tranquil destination ideal for RV and tent campers, with 64 well-maintained campsites surrounded by lush second-growth conifers. It offers easy access to a range of outdoor activities and facilities that make it a family-friendly and well-equipped campground, featuring flush toilets, hot showers, a playground, and a convenient sani-station. This park is perfect for those seeking a peaceful natural setting that still provides modern comforts.

Camping Facilities

The park’s campground is thoughtfully designed, providing a mixture of reservable and first-come, first-served sites, all of which are accessible for vehicles up to 32 feet in length. While there are no RV hookups, amenities include water taps, fire pits, picnic tables, and an amphitheater. The campsite’s proximity to the day-use beach area allows campers quick access to Rolley Lake for activities, though campsites don’t have direct lake views. Dogs are welcome in the park, but must remain leashed.

Activities at Rolley Lake

Rolley Lake provides a range of activities for all ages, from water-based recreation to scenic hiking trails. The lake’s sandy beach and calm waters are inviting for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking. As powerboats are prohibited, the environment remains peaceful, making it ideal for paddling or relaxing on the water. Fishing enthusiasts can try their luck catching stocked coastal cutthroat trout and rainbow trout, although a license is required.

For those interested in hiking, the park has two main trails: the Lakeside Loop Trail, which circles the lake and offers scenic wildlife viewing from a boardwalk, and the shorter Rolley Falls Trail, where a small waterfall awaits at the end. The terrain is mostly flat, making these trails accessible for families and suitable for young children, strollers, and even wheelchairs with some assistance.

Family-Friendly and Accessible

Rolley Lake Provincial Park is highly family-friendly, with a playground near the main campground. The layout of the facilities makes it easy for families to watch over young children while setting up camp or enjoying nearby activities. Seasonal amenities include picnic tables, barbeque stands, and a large day-use area near the beach. Many families also enjoy paddling on the lake with children, as the still waters and lack of motorized boats make it a safe environment for younger paddlers.

Seasonal Information

The camping season typically runs from April through October, with reservations open for peak months. The park also offers winter camping with reduced amenities and fees on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to Rolley Lake's popularity, particularly in summer, reservations are recommended for those planning to visit during warmer months, as the sites often fill up quickly.

Practical Tips for Campers

Due to the park’s popularity, especially in warmer weather, early arrival is recommended for those without reservations. Firewood can be purchased at the park, though bringing BBQ tools and fire-resistant gloves can make campfire cooking easier. Be mindful that temperatures can drop significantly at night, so pack accordingly for cooler evenings, especially if camping with young children.

Overall, Rolley Lake Provincial Park offers an inviting, accessible, and serene camping experience with plenty of outdoor activities for the whole family. It’s an ideal choice for anyone seeking a blend of nature, comfort, and convenience within a short drive from Vancouver.

If I could give 0 stars I would!

Stayed here with family as it's close in proximity to home and like supporting local when we can.

!!!!!HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!

A few reasons are: the lake is not user friendly, no beach area, sites are small and a few are difficult to maneuver and quite dark = bugs, colder.

Another reason is a few people in our party were told different rates for extra vehicles, varying from ranger to ranger. Why isn't the standard rate applicable here?

The main reason, however...

There is one female park ranger who delights in pushing her weight around with threats, sneaking up on people, literally laying in gulleys to spring upon campsites, rude behaviour; we saw it with several campers as well experienced it personally.

She brags about regularly getting people (families with children as well) "kicked out" and will and has called the RCMP on people.

*******STAY AWAY from this campsite if you actually want a relaxing and enjoyable experience.*******

Rolley Lake

We had a short stay at Rolley Lake this summer for the first time. We were pleasantly surprised by how relaxed the area was and how many other families were there.

The campsite has a small playground for the kids and my family went every night before bed to help the kids burn off some energy.

We would absolutely recommend it to other families.

Great little campground-has cell service

I wasn't expecting to have cell service while camping here, I prefer to be disconnected.

Nice place

The Royal Lake campground is an excellent place for families with kids. The campsite is nice and clear with big trees, and the washroom with warm water can take a shower after playing the whole day.

Best campground this year!

Loved this campground. Sites were spacious and spaced out well with lots of greenery in between. 10min walk to the beach which was Sandy and quaint. The camp ground is smaller with fewer sites than neighboring parks but that's what makes this park so much nicer.

One of our favourites!

Warm lake to swim. Hike to a waterfall and around the lake. Open all year around. Close to the lower mainland.

Beautiful Site with strict rules

If you have small kids that like playing in the forest, or playing out later in the evening, this may not be the site for you. The one camp host is very strict and brags that she evicts people regularly. I camped here once with just 1 friend and she was super nice and friendly to us, and another time with my younger teenagers and she was super rude and said we'd had noise complaints against our site despite the fact we had been gone all day in other areas of the park. It's too bad because the campground is beautiful and such close proximity to the lake.
