Craigleith Provincial Park - June 15-17 2023
Great park to use as a Home base so, you can enjoy the surrounding area and sights. This park is located on the shores of Georgian Bay. There is a beautiful shoreline that is made up of shale. The shale is beautiful and unique but can be very slippery so you have to use caution, when you are near the water. There is no sand beach at this park. There are two dog beaches that are located at either end of the park. This is a small park with small campsites and the privacy is poor.
Pros: There is lots to do outside of this Provincial Park. There are several trails outside of the park that are both bike and walking friendly. The Georgian Trail is 34Km and is ideal for biking to either Thornbury or to Collingwood. The Bruce trail is 800 Km long with 200km of side trails. The Loree Forest trail is a Moderate hike to the top of the Georgian Peaks ski club, and the Pretty River Valley Provincial Park has a 6Km scenic hike along the Bruce trail. There are several wineries in the area, a Swedish spa nearby, and a variety of attractions in Blue Mountain Village which is located 6 Kms away. There is a constant breeze flowing from Georgian Bay and because of this, I was told that mosquitos and blackflies are almost non existent at this park year round. There are no vault toilets. The washrooms are comfort stations, and most of them also have showers. The staff is friendly and engaged. The Park has a small park store where you can purchase some merchandise and firewood.
Cons: The Park itself is small, the sites are small and not very private. The Comfort stations are clean but they all need some TLC. There is a laundry facility, showers etc. This park is very close to the highway so you cannot escape the highway noise. Some of the sites could not be accessed due to the beach road being washed out. There are no sand beaches and, there are no trails within the park.
