Overview

A brief introduction to Chiricahua National Monument

Explore the pinnacles, spires, and balanced rocks that originated 27 million years ago by a massive volcanic eruption. Hike within these formations that help protect the exceptional biodiversity of the sky islands region. Connect with the human history spanning thousands of years, encompassing prehistoric indigenous peoples, Chiricahua Apaches, Buffalo Soldiers, ranchers, CCC, and visitors today.

Chiricahua National Monument is a unit of the National Park System located in the Chiricahua Mountains of southeastern Arizona. The monument was established on April 18, 1924, to protect its extensive hoodoos and balancing rocks. The Faraway Ranch, which was owned at one time by Swedish immigrants Neil and Emma Erickson, is also preserved within the monument.
Just over 85% of the monument is protected as the Chiricahua National Monument Wilderness.

Camper reviews for Chiricahua National Monument

REALLY Remote but Well Worth the Drive

You have to really want to get away from it all to visit this park but the terrain is magnificent. The campground is well-kept with a cute little creek running right through it. You even drive through the shallow creek as you circle the campground. The campsites are a bit small and might be difficult to park larger rigs. Cell service is almost non-existent except on T-Mobile with a booster. Incredible scenery.
