A brief introduction to Florida Caverns State Park
Florida Caverns State Park is a 1,449.60-acre (586.63 ha) Florida state park on the Chipola River in Jackson County, Florida, about 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Marianna. It is the only state park in Florida that offers guided tours through a dry cave system. During the tour, visitors can see stalactites, stalagmites, columns and flowstone. The park protects more than 30 named caves in the karst landscape of the Marianna Lowlands. The National Park Service designated part of it a National Natural Landmark in 1977, and the Florida Geological Survey named it a State Geological Site in 2000.
The limestone caves in the park have stalagmites, stalactites, and flowstones formed by the erosion of bedrock. Other formations are above ground, including rivers and springs.
Florida Caverns State Park and the neighboring golf course were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps as part of the New Deal. The park opened in 1942.

A Nice Florida State Park
This is a typical Florida state park that is clean and well-maintained. The campground has lost many of its trees from a hurricane but new trees have been planted. The campground road is in good shape but the main road through the park is pretty beaten up from logging operations related to cleaning out downed trees. Drive slow. I understand the caverns are well worth a visit but I haven't seen them.
