Sure it's super close to I-70, but that means it's a super plush way to enjoy some warm weather in the shoulder months (if you live in a cold climate, you will love this climate during the cooler months). We use it as our warm-up, shake-down trip each Spring, and sometimes return in the Fall before we put the trailer to bed. Bottom line, it is a SUPERBLY designed, maintained, staffed, and landscaped state park, in a SUPERBLY beautiful high-desert river-valley environment. Colorado National Monument is visible from the campground, and the Colorado River is literally steps from your campsite. Ditto for the Colorado River Trail — an excellent walking & biking path that brings you into charming Fruita, or to Kokopelli's Landing for mountain biking or river rafting, or all the way into Grand Junction and the outskirts of Palisade). While staying at this park (a birdwatcher's paradise!), you are in close proximity to historic dinosaur fossil displays, excellent hiking and biking trails (including those on top of Grand Mesa — the largest flattop mountain in the world), plentiful river and flat water activities, cultural and entertainment opportunities, fine dining, brew pubs, wineries, fruit orchards, and all of the conveniences of being near a small town (Fruita), a larger town (Grand Junction), and a highway delivering you easily to Moab and Arches NP in Moab, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP in Montrose, Colorado. CHECK IT OUT, you won't be disappointed — unless you visit during the peak summer months (it gets HOT!), or if you failed to get a reservation months in advance.
