The park features 156 campsites, including developed sites at Reverend’s Ridge and Aspen Meadows, backcountry sites for a more secluded experience, and cabins and yurts that accommodate up to six people each. Group camping is also available at the Rifleman Phillips Group Tent Campsite. Amenities and Facilities

Campers have access to various amenities, including restrooms with flush toilets, seasonal shower and laundry facilities, electrical hookups at select sites, and dump stations. Each site is equipped with a fire pit and picnic table, and drinking water is accessible throughout the campgrounds. Bear-proof food storage boxes are provided to ensure proper food storage and disposal, which is mandated to prevent bear encounters.

Seasonal Camping Considerations

  • Winter Camping: Aspen Meadows Campground is closed during winter months, while Reverend’s Ridge operates at limited capacity. Flush toilets remain available, but showers, laundry, and dump stations are closed.

  • Backcountry Camping Restrictions: Fires are prohibited in backcountry sites; only gas or liquid-fuel camping stoves with an on/off switch are allowed.

  • Horse Camping: Campsites 15 and 16 at Reverend’s Ridge accommodate horses, with options for tethering or setting up a temporary corral.

Reservations & Check-In Information

  • Check-in Time: 1:00 p.m.

  • Check-out Time: 12:00 p.m.

  • Stay Limits: Maximum of 14 days within a 28-day period.

  • Occupancy Rules: A maximum of six people, two motorized vehicles, and one camping unit per site.

Important Considerations for Visitors

  • Cellular Service: Coverage is limited throughout the park; emergency call boxes are available at the Visitor Center and Reverend’s Ridge Campground.

  • Pets: Must be leashed (maximum six feet) and attended at all times; owners are required to clean up after their pets.

  • Fire Regulations: Campfires are permitted only in designated areas with provided fire rings; always check current fire bans or restrictions before starting a fire.

  • Boating Restrictions: No boats, rafts, or other floating devices are allowed on park lakes, except as part of an organized class in canoeing sponsored by the Division.

Camper reviews for Golden Gate Canyon State Park

Fabulous Park and Location in the Rockies Front Range

Absolutely beautiful park with lots of tree cover and electric hookups. The park facilities are clean and very nice. The location is outstanding. Denver, Boulder, Nederland, Estes Park, Idaho Springs, and other areas of interest are close.

The only negatives of this park are that the roads are narrow and the back-in RV sites are pretty tight. Anything over 30 ft is very hard to get into a sight. Plus the pads are not level - so there is a little more set up time than some other parks.
