A landscape is alive underneath our feet, filled with creatures that remind us what it is to be wild.
Katmai was established in 1918 to protect the volcanically devastated region surrounding Novarupta and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. Today, Katmai National Park and Preserve also protects 9,000 years of human history and important habitat for salmon and thousands of brown bears.

Camping at Brooks Camp in the Katmai National Park is always an amazing experience. If it wasn't for Campnam, we would have never gotten reservations.
As a singleton, campnab worked great to find last minute permits. Brooks camp gets booked up almost instantly when permits are released. I started looking in June to get some July days. I was able to string together 3 days. In a couple weeks of looking. Book more than a single night. Avoid the bear platforms in the middle of the day (busiest time). Don’t bother bringing camp fuel, there’s tons of half used cans to borrow! And lighters too. No need for bear spray, they teach you how to act around these bears *they act different than your typical wild bear! I think it would be do-able for getting 2 permits per day within a months notice. More than that and you’ll need to start hunting more than a mount out. People do cancellations the night before too if you’re reeeeeally flexible. Was worth having Campnab check for me every 10 mins (plan I picked) instead of me doing it. Text work great, but you gotta log in to snag them pretty quickly. 15 mins later and they be gone
Tell us when, where, and how long you want to camp for. We’ll notify you (via SMS) when a suitable spot opens up at that campground—so you can nab that sold-out campsite reservation!
